Have You Been Cursed?
Having a curse placed upon you brings up images of locks of hair and tiny dolls with pins in them, and I suppose this does happen! That's not exactly the kind of curse I am talking about. I have been cursed several times in my life, and I wonder if you have, too.
I should probably explain what I mean by "curse". My definition is someone predicting a negative outcome for me. I have several distinct memories of people doing just that. These people did not have evil intentions or a wish to harm me. They merely projected their own issues upon me and unconsciously, I accepted them.
Let me give you an example. When I was in my early twenties, I met a woman in her mid forties. She was rather plump and obviously not comfortable with this. I, on the other hand, was naturally very slim. This woman looked at me one day and said, "When I was your age, I looked like you. When you get to be my age, this is what will happen to you." She was referring to her ample midsection and hips.
I forgot about this for about twenty years, and now I cannot even recall the woman's name. I never had to think about what I ate or concern myself with exercise because I stayed slender no matter what. Then in my mid-forties, I started to gain a little weight. Not too much, but enough that it made me uncomfortable and a bit unhappy. That is when I recalled that woman's words so many years ago.
I know she didn't mean any harm, and was only expressing her own unhappiness by dumping on me, but somewhere deep down, I accepted her emotional baggage. I agreed that I, too, would join her in middle-age with complaints and dissatisfaction with my own body. The real issue about this type of curse is that it is co-creative: I agreed to take it on.
So how do you remove a curse like this? It occurred on a deep, unconscious level, so the first step is to bring it to consciousness. That is a sure step in taking away its power. Name it, see it for what it is (an illusion) and prepare to let go of it. For me and my particular brand of monkey-mind, I need to use some logic and persuasion. I have to remind myself that this woman dumped on me and that it had nothing to do with me and everything to do with her.
It is also helpful for me to remind myself of the baselessness of generalizations such as, "All middle-aged women put on weight." "All older women get fat." "You will gain ten pounds per decade." I know some women for whom this is true, and others for whom it is not. My own mother stayed thin her whole life. I have other friends in their fifties and sixties who have not gained an ounce. If it's true for one, it can be true for us all.
Another helpful technique to get rid of curses is found in Angel Therapy®. I close my eyes and imagine the curse is like a tiny knife or dagger in my back. I call upon Archangel Michael, my protector, to remove it. I see him pull it out and remove all its toxins. Then I ask Archangel Raphael to bring in his healing green energy and soothe the wound. A small curse is like a small blade; a larger or more intentioned curse would be represented by a larger object.
So good-bye curse. I release you and send you into the burning fire of transformation. I have no use for you. I am a woman of a certain age who has a body that is the perfect weight for me. I am fit and healthy and continuously affirm this state. I do not curse youth with my own fears and insecurities; I instead rejoice and send blessings. And if I have ever cursed anyone with my own thoughts or words, I ask for those curses to now be withdrawn and transformed, and I forgive myself for my thoughtlessness.
