Chakras are spinning wheels of light spaced along the spinal column. Each colourful centre is linked to glands in the endocrine system, and to various organs in the body. Each chakra also encompasses mental, emotional and spiritual traits. The macrocosm of the universe is found in the microcosm of our bodies.
The chakra system comes from eastern philosophy, with both Indian and Chinese traditions. If you read up on chakras, you may find conflicting information, such as which organ is in the domain of which chakra, or even the number of chakras in the body. Are there 6? 7? 81? Are there minor or secondary chakras? How many? Which chakras have which properties, and govern which organs?
There doesn't seem to be a clear answer for these questions. Please refer to the section on making peace with paradox on my home page. The information I am providing is taken from a multitude of sources and teachings, and I put it together in a way that makes sense to me. I encourage you to do the same.
