REIKI

Picture
Reiki is a hands-on healing method in the Japanese tradition.  It comes from the words Rei and Ki, roughly translated as "spiritually guided life force energy". I am trained in the traditional Usui method, but in recent years, there have been many offshoots:  Karuna, Tibetan, Rainbow and perhaps twenty five more.

The quick version: a young Dr. Mikao Usui fasted on a mountaintop, and was struck in the third eye by symbols of light that came from the sky. These are the Reiki symbols that practitioners use. The Reiki symbol is shown in this beautiful image, but there are others which have, until quite recently, been kept secret. With the explosion of the information age, all the symbols are now accessible.

You will find the history, background and lineage of Reiki on the internet and in many books.  You will usually be taught these in a first level Reiki class as well.

It is traditionally taught that the only way to become a Reiki practitioner is to receive an attunement by a Reiki master. Now, I have seen books and internet resources that offer Reiki practitioner status. Some people claim to be born with the capacity to practice Reiki. Is it Reiki, or some other form of energy? My personal opinion is this:  if you feel drawn to have a Reiki attunement, then do so. Find a Reiki master with whom you feel comfortable and proceed with his/her teachings and techniques. If you feel you do not need this to practice energetic healing, then follow what your inner voice says about that as well. I believe that if you are working from the highest place within yourself, you will do good work.

I believe we do not practice Reiki; we become Reiki. We are Reiki. For this reason, I seldom teach Reiki classes at this time.

REIKI Q & A

What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese term for spiritually guided life force energy.  It is a hands-on (or hands near) method of channeling healing energy through the practitioner’s hands into the energy field of the person receiving the treatment. It is a very respectful and non-invasive therapy.

What happens during a Reiki treatment?
You will lay fully clothed on a massage table, and receive the energy that is guided through the practitioner’s hands either lightly touching or slightly above your body. Each session is unique, with varying sensations and experiences. Often, a state of deep relaxation and peace occurs.

What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki encourages stress reduction and relaxation so the body is open to self-healing. Reiki works wonders on physical symptoms (headaches, colds, various aches and pains), tension and mental or emotional distress. It also works on a spiritual basis.

How long is a treatment?
Mini-treatments of five to ten minutes can be given and be helpful, but a full-body, front and back, head-to-toe treatment takes about an hour. It is a treat that everyone deserves to experience!

What does distance healing mean?
Distance healing is exactly as it sounds; we believe energy can transcend time and space. Therefore, we can send energy back in time to heal the past; forward, to aid in a future situation, such as a scheduled surgery, and all around the world.
